2022. Director , dramaturge (written by Tomer Rosenman)
Hadar originally directed the play as a reading at the Cameri theatre, in 2019. Immediately following the festival, the artistic manager said he would like to produce it next season. Then came covid. The play was finally premiered in April 2022 at the Cameri theatre in Tel-Aviv .
PLOT
In two and a half weeks 18 year old Azriel will start learning at the most prestigious Hesder Yeshiva. But just when he finally achieves his goal, he meets a group of Tel Avivian poets that make him question his life-path. However, despite his strong attraction to the world of poetry and to beautiful Atara – (a young and bold poet), Azriel fears that if he dares come out of the “holy closet”, it will ruin his parents, mainly his father, who is a lead candidate for the head of the local Yeshiva. Azriel, torn between the world of Torah and the world of poetry, tries to secretly maneuver between the two, which leads to the uncovering of a dark family secret, that bares grave cosequences.
“For someone whose work is words – the Cameri’s new play Pikuach Nefesh (OtherWise) reminded me how many emotions and thoughts can be aroused when the lights go out and the play begins… At the beginning of the play, in jumps that were almost like cuts into a different play- the two worlds- religious and secular, were depicted as parallel lines that will never meet. But slowly, almost without our noticing, the directing (Hadar Galron), stretches the transitions, mixes them, and causes the confusion that Azriel feels to pass to the viewer, as a kind of message that is not clear to the eye and hidden intelligently, so that the feeling will overwhelm us, but we will not necessarily understand why. At the back of the stage, like the rift that Azriel feels lost between the worlds, the setting opens up into a wide crack where the feelings of the characters are depicted without words…. If life could be staged then this way please!” (MA’ARIV 25/5/22)
“…Director Hadar Galron navigated the story well, between the comic and dramatic moments, and elicited convincing performances from the actors…” (14/ 7/ 22)
I believe the Cameri’s new play Other-Wise (Pikuach Nefesh) written by Tomer Rosenman and directed by Hadar Galron, both of who came from religious worlds, is already a “classic” that will remain on stage for many seasons” (17/ 7 / 22)
“The dynamic directing, is Hadar Galron’s. She uses the upper and lower levels of the stage effectively, diverting between two worlds- not just religious and secular, but also inner and outer worlds.” (where & what to see 1/7/22 )
