Hadar Galron: MIKVE
Divadlo Thália Theater – Štúdio Márai
Timonova 3
The space of the ritual bath, in which religious Jewish women are regularly cleansed, becomes a meeting place of different approaches to faith and life in the play of contemporary Israeli playwright Hadar Galron. The fates of local women, their secrets, which everyone knows about but no one talks about, are gradually revealed here. Everything changes with the arrival of the new helper Šira, who refuses to close her eyes to human suffering. However, in his attempt to help, he encounters a barrier of religious rules and human prejudices. Women first resist the new view of faith and the proposed solutions. Finally, in the dramatic conclusion, they defy the binding rules together. This contemporary play offers themes of the status of women in society, the relationship of the Orthodox community to ordinary life, and raises the question: “Is the law above man?”, a question that is and will always be relevant.
