Merano – As part of the Day of Remembrance initiatives, the mSaturday, January 27, 2024unicipality of Merano invites citizens to a theater performance in the municipal theater this evening (Saturday, January 27th) at 8:30 p.m. Admission is free.
The performance “Whistle. My Mother Was Mengele’s Secretary” – in the original language (Hebrew) with projection of the texts in Italian and German – is based on an autobiography by Jacob Buchan (co-author and theater adaptation by Hadar Galron, directed by Hana Vazana Greenwald) and is a premiere in Italy.
“Whistle” is a monodrama that gives voice to the pain of second-generation Holocaust survivors and exposes the invisible but deep wounds of survivors. This moving narrative reveals the hidden scars through a deeply human story, following one courageous woman’s relentless pursuit of her innate right to find joy, embrace life, and discover love.
The Plot: Tami, the only child of Auschwitz survivors, discovers at the age of 45 that she has never truly lived. She receives this astonishing insight from a stranger who suddenly enters her life and opens the closed doors to her soul. Tami feels that this is her “last chance”. But is she capable of loving the way she dreams of? Or will the “black hole” inside her “devour” anyone who tries to approach her? Who should she ask for permission? Can she even believe that she deserves love?
