International productions in which I took part:
1. 2005 – Compare & performer for Yom Haatzmaut in London at Wembley (for an audience of 3000).
2. 2014 – International Shalom Festival, Artistic Manager & compare.
In 2014, an Israeli show (This City,) was shouted down at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival by the BDS. The management of the festival apologized but said they could do nothing about it. The production company (Incubator) had no choice but to pack and leave back to Israel, after putting a lot of money and energy into bringing the show to this famous festival. In 2015 NO ISRAELI SHOWS performed at the Edinburgh fringe.
Israel’s Cultural attache at the time , Mr Dan Golan, connected me to a certain Mr. Nigel Goodrich , a British Christian guy living in Edinburgh at the time. Nigel wanted to help bring back Israeli artists to the Edinburgh fringe. Knowing that the Festival had been founded by an Austrian born Jew , Sir Rudolf Bing, who, after WW2, wanted to use art as a cultural bridge, and invited Germany to participate in the festival, to prove to the world that art has the power to overcome political conflict, I realized this was a great opportunity to do something Big. At first, Mr Goodrich, backed by the Jewish community in Scotland, intended to bring only Jewish-Israeli artists from Israel. However, I told him that Shalom (= Peace), cannot be one-sided, and if we are talking about cultural bridges -the only way to make this truly happen, would be to bring to the festival Israeli Jews, Christians, Muslims, Beduins and Palestinians too. People who share the belief in dialogue through art. People who believe, as Bing did, that art has the power to connect, and rise above political conflicts. We held the International Shalom Festival for two years, bringing in total, over 300 artists (musicians, actors, sculptors, painters) from our rich and diverse art, including the production that had originally been shouted down by the BDS. By 2018 , Israeli artists were back at the Ediburgh fringe, so we felt we had accomplished our mission…
